Pitch
Kazedo is a 2D Metroidvania project centered around discovering the city of Kyoto as well as Japanese culture and folklore.
Technical Sheet
Team size: Solo (5 people objective)
Platform: PC
Engine: Unity
What I worked on:
-
3C Design, for both the main gameplay (which consists in smooth platforming) and the mini games
-
Level Design, making the game world reflect Kyoto's districts and using them to thematise areas accordingly (with the monuments used as landmarks)
-
Mini-game Design, teaching the player about japanese cultural elements through simple mini-games (tea ceremony, koto...)
-
Programming, for the whole game: 3Cs, mini-games...
-
Benchmarking, to be aware of the dos and don'ts of similar games
Problematics solved
-
Designing interesting mini-games, by making them intuitive and in direct link to the cultural elements shown
-
Keeping the player stimulated, by crafting a varied experience that makes the player switch between platforming, mini-games and narrative moments
-
Blending entertainement and education, by using references of games that teach the player about other cultures (from Assassin's Creed to Duolingo)
